The ESi Ironman 70.3 Augusta starts on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 7:30 am, exactly 70.3 hours from the time of this post. I have been training for this race, which will be my first Half Ironman triathlon, since mid-July. Due to a variety of circumstances, I haven't trained as much as I would have liked, but I feel like I have done enough to at least finish the race in one piece before the course is closed. Here are my training totals for the months of August and September:
- Swimming - 8.00 miles over 4:44:55 (1.68 mph average)
- Biking/Spinning - 259.29 miles over 16:51:36 (15.38 mph average)
- Running - 76.12 miles over 13:30:28 (5.64 mph average)
If I maintain the same average paces throughout the race, I will finish the 1.2-mile swim in 42:51, the 56-mile bike in 3:38:28, and the 13.1-mile run in 2:19:22, for a total finish time of 6:40:41 (not including time spent in transition). That bike time seems about right, but I expect I'll be faster on the swim--due to the downstream current in the Savannah River--and slower on the run.
