"All athletes are disciplined in their training." 1 Corinthians 9:25a (NLT)

I was not disciplined in my training this week, and I blame Tom Clancy!  I started reading Without Remorse--the first novel (in plot chronological order) of the Jack Ryan series--last weekend and spent every spare minute reading it until I finished.  One reviewer on Amazon.com wrote: "You simply cannot put this one down for something as trivial as sleeping or eating."  I might add working out to that list of "trivial" things!

I was only able to squeeze in two workouts this week around my sleeping, eating, working, parenting, and reading about the exploits of John Kelly, and both workouts were brief "bricks," i.e. two-sport workouts (usually consisting of biking followed by running in the triathlon training context).  In hopes of doing better this week, I have not yet started another thriller novel.  (In case anyone is wondering, John Grisham's The Runaway Jury is next on my list!)

Weekly Report - January 15, 2012

"All athletes are disciplined in their training." 1 Corinthians 9:25a (NLT)

Though my distance totals were fairly low, this was the most consistent week of training I've had in a while.  I only skipped one planned workout, but I made it up the following day, so I guess you could say I didn't miss any workouts.  Having races on the calendar really makes a difference in my motivation level.

The outdoor temperature reverted to the January mean this week, so all of my workouts were inside.  That's OK, though, because working out on indoor cardio equipment--which has book platforms on the displays--gave me additional opportunities to engage in my other addiction: reading on my Kindle.  I love that thing!

Weekly Report - January 8, 2012

"All athletes are disciplined in their training." 1 Corinthians 9:25a (NLT)

I jumped back into training with a bang last Sunday via a 17.1-mile bike ride.  That may not have been the best idea coming off three months of inactivity, as I was saddle sore for the next several days.  I had plenty of time to recover, though, because my work schedule interfered with training Tuesday through Friday.

In other news, the weather has been absolutely fabulous here in South Carolina, which allowed me to do all of my workouts (other than swimming) outside.  With the exception of two days, the high temperatures were in the 60s and 70s all week.  I love the south!

Getting Back in the Game

As we transition into 2012, I am resolving to get back into two things I've done very little of over the last three months: training and blogging.  Since my last race--The Dam Tri on October 8, 2011--I have worked out a grand total of eight times and logged just 1.3 miles swimming, 8.9 miles running, and (drumroll please) zero miles biking!  And my number of blog posts in the same time period is the same as my bike mileage.  Yikes!
